Spotlight Programs - Southern Illinois Bullets
2009 Lexington Woodbat 16U Tournament Champion
The Bullets are a program that is accustomed to winning. In fact, in the last 5 years that is all they have done accumulating a record of 185-33. With winning comes a tradition of having great players which the Bullets are not short on either. In the Bullets 12 year career they have produced 16 draft picks and over 120 college baseball players. In 2009, the Bullets produced 4 draft picks including a 2nd rounder and 2 others taken in the top 20 rounds. In many circles, the Southern Illinois Bullets are considered to be one of the top 20 programs in the Midwest. They not only have produced numerous exceptional players, but the Bullets always seem to be a team everyone enjoys playing. They are not only respected but feared by their peers. The younger Bullets were no different. They accumulated a 9-2 record in Pastime Tournaments events and an overall record of 25-10. The Bullets played first in a tournament in Evansville. Playing through the blazing 105 degree temperatures all weekend they were unable to knock off the LIDS Indiana Bulls, eventually losing to them twice in the tournament. The Bullets went 4-2 and finished second in the tournament.
The next Pastime Tournaments event the Bullets played in was in Lexington and once again the Bullets found themselves matched up with the Bulls in pool play. However, the Bullets were able to prevail in an epic 1-0 battle. That set the stage for the Bullets to participate in another championship game only this time they were able to hold off the Bulls and win 3-2. The Bullets staff held the Bulls to just 2 hits.
2010, this 16u team will take their game to the next level participating on the 18U Southern Illinois Bullets. You will be sure to find several of these kids sprinkled throughout college baseball in a couple of years and who knows maybe draft pick 17 is looming in this group Bullets.
